The Staff @ Work Survey Results are In!

UC San Diego staff members have made their voices heard through the 2017 Staff@Work Survey. Inclusion improves the entire campus, and changes made to the 2017 survey reflect that. This year questions created in partnership with the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Office were integrated into the survey to receive more specific climate and diversity data and to gain a more holistic picture of staff experiences.

The 2017 Staff @ Work survey received a 63% response rate  with over 81% of staff members stating that they are a “satisfied” or an “extremely satisfied” UC San Diego employee.

Inclusion helps us all succeed.

You continue to rank “All are Welcome” as a top strength of UC San Diego. You  told us thatyour departments regularly practice and adhere to our Principles of Community and that your colleagues value your contributions.  

More personally, over 90% of you said you have never experienced negative behavior from colleagues based on your race, ethnicity or gender.

In fact, 3 of the 5 top-scoring issues (4.3 out of 5 on the scale) demonstrate that you feel respected at work:

  • Staff feel supervisors treat them with respect
  • Staff feel that people with different sexual orientations are treated fairly
  • Staff feel supervisors are supportive of their personal issues

You told us that since 2016 you have become more satisfied with diversity programs on campus; and,

That you feel top leaders are committed to diversity.

We still have work to do to achieve inclusive excellence at UC San Diego.

Overall, while scores were not low –  you shared opportunities for improvement, which included your wanting to  have more of a voice at UC San Diego. Another opportunity to improve was in the area of yourfeeling more valued in your departments and the university. Let’s work on that together!

You also told us we need to keep an eye on “All Are Welcome.” While it still was a top strength, there was a decrease this year.

72 of you were mentioned 3 or more times by your colleagues for your contributions to a positive work environment! And, 8 staff members were mentioned 5 or more times by their colleagues for making UC San Diego a great place to work. Great job! Each and every one of us has the power to transform UC San Diego.
