Hispanic Serving Health Professions Schools & UC San Diego Summer Training Scholarships
Application due March 31, 2008
Dear Colleagues:
UCSD recently received a continuation award from Hispanic Serving Health Professions Schools (HSHPS) to offer 4 mentored training scholarships designed to provide future health professionals with research experience to better serve Hispanic populations, particularly populations in our US-Mexico border region (HIV/AIDS and Associated Comorbidities in the US-Mexico Border Fellowship Program). Dr. Steffanie Strathdee and I serve as Co-Directors of the training program.
We are actively seeking qualified graduate students in health professions training from anywhere in the US to apply to HSHPS. Potential candidates may include medical students and students of UCSD Joint Doctoral Programs who are interested in HIV/AIDS or related co-morbidities and could participate in a 3-month internship (minimum of 1 year completion of graduate studies) or 6-month fellowship [requires completion of graduate-level (e.g. MPH or PhD) coursework]. Although Latino candidates are encouraged to apply, candidates may also include non-Latino individuals interested in serving Latino populations.
Additional candidate qualifications can be found on the HSHPS training program web site: http://www.hshps.org/internships.html.
The application packet is available at: http://www.hshps.org/applications/2008/HIVAIDSFellowship.pdf
Last year’s scholars rated our mentored training program very highly and we look forward to serving a new group of trainees in 2008. Please help us get the word out and forward this information to any students or student list-serves that may reach qualified candidates.
The application deadline has been extended to Monday March 31, 2008.
Thank you for your support. Please do not hesitate contacting me if you have any questions (mzuniga@ucsd.edu).
Kind regards,
María Luisa Zúñiga
